Formula elak pemaju rumah lari perlu dicari 24/05/2004 BH

I HEAVED a sigh of relief when reading your report, “Build and sell” (The Star, May 22). Perhaps it really is premature to rejoice at our Prime Minister's statement but all the same it is reassuring that he is looking into the matter.

Build before you sell makes sense 25/05/2004 NST
"BUILD-before-you-sell" for the builder is "see-before-you-buy" for the buyer. How many of us would buy a new car without test driving or at least seeing one? How many of us would marry without meeting or at least seeing our future life partner? Yes, I know some do, but that is the exception. One could buy a house before it is built if he chooses to, but that will always be an option.

It's a question of risk for housing developers 25/05/2004 NST
I REFER to "Developers concerned about `build first, sell later' proposal as opposed to `sell first, build later'," (NST, May 22). The whole idea and reason for choosing a particular method is risk positioning. In other words, it's a question of who's taking more risk: consumer or developer. The "sell first, build later" is the preferred method for developers because it is less risky; they do not need deep pockets and as long as they can pre sell 60-70 per cent of the stock, it's a home run.
