TUNNEL boring works
at the Storm Water Management and Road Tunnel (SMART) project is
expected to start this month.
This is possible now that excavation of the shaft
at the Chan Sow Lin North Drive Tunnel and Kampung Pandan has been
completed.
“The Chan Sow Lin North Drive Tunnel and Kampung
Pandan represent 70% of the excavation volume,” a SMART spokesperson
said, adding that excavation works were still taking place at the
Chan Sow Lin South Drive Tunnel and Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Highway.
He said tunnel boring was the bulk of the project
but stressed that the technique was safe and efficient.

Employing the use of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM),
tunnel-boring works will start from the Chan Sow Lin North Drive
Tunnel channelling its way towards Kampung Pandan, Desa Pandan till
Kampung Berembang.
Southbound tunnel works at Chan Sow Lin will make
its way towards the KL-Seremban Highway to the storage reservoir in
Taman Desa and is expected to start in August.
The company has engaged contractors to carry out
rectification works by pouring cement into the earth to stabilise
the ground following complaints of sinkholes and cracks by residents
and business folks at 2½ Mile Jalan Cheras.
Non-structural cracks that had appeared at
buildings would be patched up after the completion of stabilisation
works, he said.
