dibendung. |

AFTER decades of being "trapped" in an abandoned housing project, the nightmare
of these buyers may soon come to an end ... if the government can expeditiously
swing into action and convert its promises into action. Mid-week, the Ministry

them. |

kira-kira RM800,000 dengan Majlis Perbandaran Alor Gajah (MPAG). |
Insurance against
abandoned projects not feasible
13/02/2009 NST By Ivy Chang
THERE have been indications that the 10:90 housing delivery system's full
implementation may be deferred in light of the economic downturn. If that
is the case, what kind of protection can consumers have to mitigate the risk
of ending up with an abandoned project? Should Malaysia adapt and adopt the
Australian home builders warranty insurance plan? After all, we already seem
to have been smitten by its 10:90 system. Under Australia's Home Warranty
Insurance Scheme, builders are obliged to cover their buyers against losses
arising from defects or non-completion of building work in certain conditions. |

The better approach
to housing delivery
13/03/2009 NST By Chan Kam Nam
SUPPORTERS of the conventional Sell-Then-Build (STB) method of housing delivery
will say it has been a roaring success, having delivered hundreds of thousands
of affordable houses over the past decades with only a small percentage of
projects abandoned. However, even one abandoned project should be considered
one too many. The fundamental weakness of STB is that buyers are made to share
in the business risk of the project (but not the gains) and stand to suffer
much if it is abandoned. |
