Four out of five housing projects
abandoned since 1999 revived

projects were reported to have been
abandoned in Malacca since 1999 and they
involve some 3,143 units and 1,418
buyers. However, four have been revived
and works are expected to resume soon.

Cabinet gets list of errant local
authorities

IPOH: The Housing and Local Government Ministry submitted last month
its first report to the Cabinet on local authorities that have not
issued certificates of fitness (CFs) within 14 days. Minister Datuk
Seri Ong Ka Ting said, however, the names of the errant local
authorities had not been included in the report so as to give them
another chance to buck up.

contractors to revive 12 projects

PENANG: The state government has engaged turnkey contractors to
revive and complete 12 abandoned low and low medium-cost housing
projects in various phases of development. The 12 projects are
Taman Sri Semarak, Taman Cemerlang, Taman Terubong Indah (Majestic
Heights) and Fettes Villa in the northeast district; Taman Sri Bayu
in southwest district; Pangsapuri Widuri, Taman Sejahtera, PAKR
Kuala Muda Phase 2 and PAKR Ekor Kucing Phase 2 in north Seberang
Prai; and Taman Pekatra, Taman Widuri and PAKR Sungai Dua in south
Seberang Prai.

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said previously some housing developers had taken advantage of the legal loopholes to hand over houses to buyers once water and electricity supply was connected although the houses were not fully completed.

These developers, despite getting bank loans, leave buyers in the lurch by not completing their projects on schedule or even abandoning them, he said at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Taman Nyalas Baru housing project in Jasin.
