Build more low-cost houses instead of
flats
26/12/2002 NST
IT is good to learn that the Federal
Government has taken over the
responsibility for the construction of
houses for the lower-income group. It
has set aside RM1 billion. Of this
amount RM700 million is for 64 projects
to relocate squatters in Kuala Lumpur
and Selangor by 2005. However, generally
speaking, developers are crass
businessmen who only look to maximise
profits. If they can avoid building
low-cost units they will gladly do so.
This is where the authorities must come
down hard on the defaulters.
