THE country's construction industry may come to a complete standstill and subsequently trigger off a "slowdown" effect on the nation's economy if the Government proceeds with plans to deport all illegal immigrant workers. This is the warning issued by the Housing Developers' Association Malaysia in the light of the decision by the Cabinet Committee on Employment of Foreign Workers to deport the illegal wokers to enable them to secure valid travel documents before being allowed to re-enter the country legally.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sat. - The Housing Developers Association is asking the Government to conduct within the country its latest proposed registration exercise for illegal immigrant workers. It said this should be done instead of asking the workers to go to Batam Island to get valid travel papers before applying to return.

THE Government should rethink its position and seek the views of the private sector on the compulsory repatriation of illegal workers to Batam. Housing Development Association (HDA) executive director Yin Ee Kok said before any action is taken, HDA would like to be given a change to participate in a brainstorming session with the Government. It was reported that the Cabinet Committee on Foreign Workers, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister is scheduled to meet on Wednesday.

HE Government's decision to deport illegal workers will have adverse short-term effects on on-going construction projects, Master Builders Association of Malaysia (MBAM) president Siah Kwee Mow said on Monday. He said the Government should consider the possible impact before sending the illegals back to their countries.

IPOH, Wed. - The State Government has approached the Federal Government to consider delaying the deduction of monthly instalments for buyers of low-cost houses in abandoned housing projects. "We have made an appeal to the Treasury six months ago to get them to consider the matter but, until now, there has been no response," said State local government committee chairman Datuk Au How Cheong.

KUALA LUMPUR, Mon. - Employers today sighed with relief over the Government's new ruling allowing illegal foreign workers to stay on pending registration, and construction industry employers say the move has saved the industry from collapse. The executive director of the Master Builders' Association of Malaysia, Kong Yee Peng, described the move as "very wise". He said the local construction industry depended heavily on Indonesian workers who were now mostly working without proper documents.

RIMZAB Leasing Sdn Bhd, the developer of Taman Selesa Jaya, is not responsible for the repair of leaking sewage pipes in low-cost flats in the estate. Its chief executive officer, Yeap Poh Chim. said the affected flat dwellers will have to make their own arrangemements to rectify the problem.

Penyelaras Jawatankuasa bertindak kampung itu, Encik Harun Abdul Hamid, berkata tindakan Kabra Holdings Sdn Bhd itu, bertentangan dengan kebenaran meneruskan projek perumahan yang mereka perolehi daripada Mahkamah Tinggi.

AN owner of two floors in a four-storey building in Brickfields is having sleepless nights over the failure of the developer to apply for strata titles. Dr J.B. IPOH, Mon. - Sterling Property Development Sdn Bhd, the developer of seven blocks of low-cost flats in Bercham near here, has given an assurance that the 560 buyers will be able to occupy their flats early next year. A company spokesman said although the units were completed more than two years ago it was unable to obtain the certificate of fitness due to water problems.

KUALA LUMPUR: Amaran kepada pemilik rumah kos rendah Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) - Tindakan merampas rumah akan diambil terhadap mereka yang menjualnya semula untuk mendapat keuntungan berlipat kali ganda. "DBKL bercadang menggubal syarat jual beli rumah kos murah dan sederhana supaya ia tidak boleh dijual beli kepada orang lain tanpa kebenaran DBKL kerana rumah itu dikhaskan kepada golongan berpendapatan rendah.

Sistem perumahan sempurna untuk semua 28/11/1991 BH 
SEBANYAK 602,700 unit rumah diperlukan dalam tempoh Rancangan Malaysia Keenam (RM6) dan kira-kira 60 peratus daripadanya atau 343,800 unit akan dibina mengikut program perumahan kos rendah. Program Khas Perumahan Kos Rendah (PKPKR) juga akan diteruskan bagi memenuhi sasaran mengikut perancangan asal. Dalam tempoh berkenaan, kerajaan turut memperuntukkan $807 juta atau 45 peratus daripada keseluruhan peruntukan berjumlah $1.78 bilion bagi pelbagai program pembangunan sosial dalam RM6 untuk projek perumahan awam berbanding $1.46 bilion dalam Rancangan Malaysia Kelima (RML). Semua ini membayangkan keperluan perumahan yang semakin mendesak di kalangan rakyat. PKPKR diperkenalkan pada 1986 dengan matlamat menyediakan 240,000 unit rumah kos rendah dalam tempoh RML seiring dengan matlamat jangka panjang kerajaan untuk memastikan setiap golongan berpendapatan rendah mempunyai rumah yang sempurna. Walaupun sebanyak 352,495 unit membabitkan 1,056 projek sudah didaftarkan dalam program berkenaan, hanya 49.2 peratus atau 173,303 dapat dibina. Di samping itu, 179,192 unit lagi sedang dalam perancangan, 129,236 masih dalam pembinaan dan 44,067 lagi selesai dibina hingga Ogos tahun lalu. Peruntukan sebanyak $390.72 juta disediakan dalam program berkenaan tetapi hanya kira-kira 60 peratus yang sudah digunakan sehingga akhir tahun lalu.

KUALA LUMPUR, Rabu - Semua pembeli rumah kos rendah dan sederhana berharga kurang daripada $80,000 tidak perlu membayar kos penyelenggaraan apabila Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) mewujudkan Tabung Pengurusan Perumahan. Datuk bandar, Tan Sri Elyas Omar, berkata dua atau tiga peratus daripada harga rumah itu akan diasingkan untuk dimasukkan dalam tabung berkenaan bagi mengurus penyelenggaran persekitaran kawasan perumahan.

HULU KLANG: Keindahan kawasan perumahan mewah di Taman Bukit Wangsa Maju terjejas kerana ada pemaju yang masih gagal menyiapkan beberapa unit rumah di situ. MELAKA, Khamis - Pemaju perumahan yang mempunyai rekod buruk mungkin tidak dipertimbangkan untuk sebarang permohonan projek baru di Melaka, kata Ahli Exco Negeri, Datuk Haji Mohd Zin Abdul Ghani. Bagaimanapun, katanya, syarat lebih ketat akan dikenakan jika kerajaan negeri bercadang menimbang semula permohonan baru pemaju berkenaan pada masa akan datang.

THE Government has not been able to nab developers who sell low-cost houses for more than $25,000 because house buyers had voluntarily agreed to pay more in their sales and purchase agreements. Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Haji Daud Taha said the house buyers' signatures in the S&P for "additional" construction on their low-cost houses made it hard to prove that the developers had committed malpractice.
