      Happiness revived!
      06/03/1991 MM By Freddie Ng
SOME 300 people who have bought houses in Taman Kelab Ukay in Hulu
Klang are much relieved by the prospect of a $28.3 -million soft loan
from the abandoned housing project fund. This means that work will soon resume
on the project abandoned since 1987 when the developer, Lipkland Sdn Bhd,
      faced cash flow problems.

      Artistic potential
      of abandoned site 06/03/1991 NST-CITYX
IF you drive along Jalan Udang Siar in Jinjang Selatan during one of the sunbaked
afternoons, you will not fail to notice this huge concrete structure perched
majestically a be of lush green grass. Obviously one recognises immediately
that this is an abandoned housing project similar to many others in the country
which have been left unattended for many years after developers were unable
      to meet their obligations.

      Housebuyers
get the kiss of life 09/03/1991 NST By Chiang Siew Lee

(STF) - Purchasing a house can be a daunting undertaking. With so many housing
projects abandoned, it is not surprising that the average buyer still suffers
anxiety even after securing the bank loan and signing the relevant papers.
Chiang Siew Lee looks at the problem of abandoned housing projects FEBRUARY
26 was a very happy day for the housebuyers of the 236 units of medium-cost
houses in Taman Sri Jelok, Kajang. They received the keys to their houses
from Finance Minister Datuk Paduka Daim Zainuddin. The houses had been abandoned
in 1986 and comprise the first project to be revived under the Abandoned Housing
Projects Fund (AHPF) where the developer of the abandoned project is given
a soft loan at two per cent interest a year to complete the stalled project.

      Sorting out
misery in housing scene 11/03/1991 NST By Shaik Osman Majid

IT is ironical that when it comes to the largest single investment we make
in our lives we buy upon seeing the plan, not the product. We try out shoes,
making fitting appointments, test drive but when we buy houses we only see
models or at best a model houses the developer would have finished, dressed
up in its promotional best. We only see the cracks in the wall, leaks in the
roof, poor plastering and shoddy paintwork very much later. Such discontent,
to be sure, is nowhere near the nightmarish agony thousands of other house
buyers who discover the plans they signed for remain precisely that. The picture
of abandoned housing schemes is dismal indeed

      `Make compromises
to revive housing projects' 12/03/1991 BT By Ahmad Fadzil
      Ghazali
RAISING house prices may not be the best solution to revive abandoned housing
projects but the schemes may be revived through compromise among the parties
involved, says Housing Developers' Association (HDA) director Teo Chiang Kok.
He said, to revive a particular abandoned housing project, a lot of sacrifices
and compromises must be made by house buyers, the developer and bankers.
