			Property databank set-up long overdue
            14/11/1992 BT
THE property and construction sectors, riding in tandem with the
country's rapid conomic growth, are expected to remain bouyant in
the immediate future. The construction sector which experienced
strong growth in the last few years is expected to maintain double
digit growth during the Sixth Malaysian Plan period. This year, it
is expected to record a growth of 13.5 per cent compared with 14.6
per cent in 1991. Works Minister Datuk Leo Moggie, at a property
conference earlier this year, said the demand for residential,
commercial and institutional buildings is still quite substantial.
The prolific growth of condominiums especially in the Klang Valley
shows that there is a rising demand for these buildings.

Safety poser

      26/11/1992 MM
MANY potential house buyers are harbouring doubts about the safety of
living in high-rise buildings, especially the lowand medium-cost ones. The
president of the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM), Mr Jimmy C.S.
Lim, attributed this increasing lack of confidence in the building
industry to the spate of total or partial collapse of structures under
