billion in low and medium -cost housing loans over the next two
years was welcome by many. Consumer Proctection Advisory council
member Lee Lam Thye said the lending guidelines were good as they
come in the light of numerous complaints about financial
institutions being very selective and, in several cases refusing to
finance the purchase of low-cost houses.

POLICE defused a tense situation when some 50 Sentul residents
confronted a city lawyer at his office alleging that he had induced
one of them to sign a false affidavit. The affidavit is said to be
for a pending court case regarding eviction of occupants of a piece
            of land in Sentul Pasar.
			Guidelines on condos needed
            24/04/1992 NST By Condo-concerned
A PROPERTY writer for the NST blamed the "image" problem of
residents' associations for the failure to maintain proper services
for condominiums when they take over from the developer or property
management. I think this problem is over-simplified. The fact is
that the developer has these advantages: It has its own legal staff
to follow through on financial defaults; more importantly, the
developer's consent (sometimes plus a so-called transfer fee) is
required when the apartment owner sells his property. Therefore, any
outstanding service charge payments together with interest can still
be claimed at the last moment.
Flatly put out by strata title snag

LIFE in an old housing estate like the United Garden in Jalan Klang
Lama is idyllic except for one snag - the flat owners are yet to
receive their strata titles, says Heng. Without the titles, they
cannot put their properties up for mortgage or sell them.

residents have been staying there for months and some have even
            renovated their houses.

			Syor guna jeriji mudah dibuka

KUALA LUMPUR: Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan
mengesyorkan kepada semua pemaju perumahan memasang jeriji besi yang
mudah dibuka apabila berlaku kebakaran pada rumah yang baru dibina,
kata menteri berkenaan Datuk Dr Teng Chew Peh. Katanya, pemasangan
jeriji besi jenis itu bukanlah satu syarat yang mesti, sebaliknya
cadangan bagi mengelakkan penghuni terperangkap disebabkan jeriji
            besi yang tidak selamat.

THE council decided to review its decision to allow a developer to
build flats on a section of a carpark and field in Pandan Jaya. This
follows an objection by councillor Datuk Mufti Suib who said the
project would deprive residents of space and turn the area into a
            concrete jungle.

KUALA LUMPUR, Wed. - Clients who have been cheated by lawyers or people
who know of lawyers who commit fraud should report such cases to the
police and the Bar Council instead of telling the Press about it. Bar

a report immediately after a lawyer's crime was discovered would help save
other people from being cheated by crooked lawyers.
