Directive paying dividends
17/10/1996 NST
HAVING closely followed the Certificate of Fitness issue this past year lamenting
the local authorities' long delays in handing over that vital building document,
we were pleasantly surprised by the report this week that the Kuantan Municipal
Council has done it in a day. That is indeed a record and syabas is a fitting
accolade. The council's swiftness in processing the application without compromising
quality and safety standards makes it a shining example for all local authorities.
Relating the event, council vice-president Mohamad Saib said the company concerned,
operating at the Gebeng industrial estate, was able to forward the necessary
documents, including safety procedures it would adopt, a day before the technical
committee met. Satisfied with the compliances, approval was promptly given.
This, said Mohamad, goes to show that the council has no problem in issuing
CFs, even in a day, if applicants can furnish all the required documents.
The effort is in line with the council's aim of achieving the international
ISO 9000 standard by year- end. The council's pledge to continue working closely
with developers and private companies to help expedite the issuance of the
CFs certainly lives up to the spirit of Malaysia Incorporated.
