MUAR, Sat. - Beleaguered Panchor village, which experienced a series of massive
cave-ins recently, was hit by another cave-in last night which caused 10,000
tonnes of boulders to vanish into the nearby Muar River. The cave-in, described
as the worst faced by the village, caused a nearby row of ll pre-war wooden
and zinc shophouses to tremble, sending its 64 occupants into a state of frenzy
and panic.

90 families, whose flats in Taman Seri Tempoyang in Kuala Lipis are threatened
by soil erosion, has been told to speed up work. Tasklink (M) Sdn Bhd was

ready before the year's end with the remaining houses completed early next
year.

KUANTAN, Mon. - Menteri Besar Tan Sri Mohamed Khalil Yaakob said today the
Housing and Local Government Ministry must decide fast whether the 10,000
residents of the defective flats in Bandar Indera Mahkota would be asked to
move out. "If the ministry decides they should be re-settled, we have no problem
in doing so," he said.
Appeal to revive project or

ruling that all local authorities must issue the certificate of fitness within
14 days once a building meets all structural and legal requirements. Prime
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad gave weight to the directive when
he told State Governments and local authorities in March that they have to
issue the CFs within the stipulated time and that any other conditions outside
these requirements are irrelevant. Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk
Dr Ting Chew Peh told local authorities which could not comply with the directive
to notify his ministry and talk to his officials about their problems.

Bandar Indera Mahkota flats in Kuantan is due to the Pahang Government's failure
to inform the Federal Government on its recommendations to solve the problem.

could not do anything to solve the matter unless the State Government reported
its stand, and offered written recommendations pertaining to the problem.
Proposed Act to ensure better

THE proposed Building and Common Property (Maintenance and Management) Act
will be tabled in Parliament next year, Land and Cooperative Development Minister
Datuk Osu Sukam said yesterday. "The proposed Act will see the setting up
of a Commission of Building which will give more protection to owners of high-rise
buildings (above two storeys). It will also ensure better maintenance of such
buildings," Osu said in Kuala Lumpur yesterday after chairing a two-hour Consultation
Panel Annual Dialogue with the Land and Mines Director General's Department
and other panel members.

of high-rise buildings who have yet to apply for strata titles for purchasers.
Land and Co-operative Development Ministry's Parliamentary Secretary Datuk
Fauzi Abdul Rahman said the ministry was aware that there were thousands of
units in high-rise apartments that were occupied but yet to be issued with
strata titles.

to find a solution within a fortnight to the problem of residents living in
defective flats in Bandar Indera Mahkota. Menteri Besar Tan Sri Mohd Khalil
Yaakob said today the Pahang Government was ready if the Cabinet decided that
the affected residents, numbering about 10,000, should be relocated.
