Lajim: Sabah to revive eight

KOTA KINABALU, Wed. - Eight abandoned housing projects involving about 500
units in Sabah will be revived by the State Government, Local Government and
Housing Minister Datuk Lajim Ukin said today. The projects will be revived
by the ministry with the assistance of managers appointed by the Government,
house buyers, relevant government departments and agencies, and financiers.

lebih 500 unit dikenal pasti oleh kerajaan negeri untuk dipulihkan, dalam

projek perumahan itu akan dilaksanakan oleh KKTP Sdn Bhd, syarikat yang diwujudkan

KUALA LUMPUR: Nasib pembeli rumah Taman Pandan Utama (dulunya Taman Rampai
Ampang) yang terbengkalai sejak 10 tahun lalu dijangka terus malang apabila
pemaju perumahan berkenaan, tidak dapat dikesan. Keadaan itu dijangka menyebabkan
kerja pemulihan 240 unit rumah pangsa kos rendah dan lapan unit rumah kedai
yang terbengkalai tidak akan menjadi nyata.
Ensuring developers apply for

KUALA LUMPUR, Wed. - The Government will come down hard on developers who
fail to apply for strata titles despite the relaxation of many conditions.
Deputy Minister of Land and Co-operative Development Dr Goh Cheng Teik said
an amendment was being made to the Strata Title Act 1985 to enable developers
to apply for strata titles if a building was completed up to roof level but
had yet to be issued a full certificate of fitness.

Director admits shortchanging

JOHOR BARU, Mon. - A company director admitted in the Sessions Court here
today that he had shortchanged 83 people in a land deal in 1982. Sinniah Raju,
49, also admitted that after the subsequent sale of land in 1991, he did not
share any portion of the proceeds totalling RM1.15 million with the 83 people,
but instead retained the money for himself.
Applications for strata titles

DEVELOPERS of condominiums and stratified commercial properties must apply
for strata titles within six months from the date of handing over the keys
to the purchasers, parliamentary secretary to the Ministry of Land and Coperative
Development Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman said yesterday. He also reminded purchasers
of such properties not to make alterations and renovations to their properties
prior to receiving the strata titles. He said his ministry will soon take
action against more than 100 developers in the Klang Valley who have not submitted
strata title applications. Although only one developer has been penalised
since the Strata Title Act 1985 was passed, the Government will be proactive
in implementing the legal proceedings to resolve the strata title problem,

abandoned the project after spending millions to undertake earthworks. The

KUALA LUMPUR, Sat. - The Housing and Local Government Ministry will set up
a committee soon to check on the quality of houses built by developers to
protect house buyers. Minister Datuk Dr Ting Chew Peh said the committee,
to be headed by the Ministry's secretary-general, was necessary to ensure
that the housing industry achieved the "Zero Defect" target as envisaged by
the Government.

Panel to study zero defect

THE Housing and Local Government Ministry expects to set up a special committee
very soon to look into the Government drives for zero defect in housing in
the future. "Since the launching of our zero defect campaign in May this year,
we have received good response from customers. The committee which will be
headed by us will also call developers to discuss ways to improve quality

THE Land and Cooperative Development Ministry will extend nationwide its investigation
to detect housing developers who fail to apply for or who submit incomplete
applications for strata titles for their buildings. Its parliamentary secretary,
Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman, said yesterday he believed a large number of developers
were involved based on a recent investigation in Kuala Lumpur which detected
about 100 errant developers. Some of the developers had not obtained the strata
titles for the past 13 years due to submission of incomplete or wrong data
on their buildings, he told reporters in Kampung Tok Keramat in Kuantan after
presenting a wheelchair to a former carpenter, Hussein Ali, 63, who was paralysed

housing project in Gertak Sanggul in Penang to work out some form of assistance
for them. The secretary of the house buyers committee K. Subramaniam Jeorge
said the meeting was necessary as the office wanted feedback from the buyers

into force by the end of the year, will require developers to provide buffer
zones to minimise disturbances to nearby schools and residential areas. Science,
Technology and Environment Minister Datuk Law Hieng Ding said today it was
one of the ways to control noise pollution which had become a major problem.

project behind their homes to give them a written assurance "in black and
white" on the agreement both sides reached at a meeting on July 25. Medan
Damansara Action Committee chairman Wan Mohd Rashidi Wan Yahaya said the developer,
Lensa Planning development Sdn Bhd, had yet to issue them a written assurance
they would be compensated for any damage caused by the construction work.
