Lawyer's letter is a threat, says MP

THE MP for Ampang Jaya Ong Tee Keat was
undisturbed when he was slapped with a
lawyer's letter dated June 1 from Talam
Corporation Sdn Bhd demanding that he
apologise for a statement he made over
the Bandar Baru Ampang flats. Instead,
Ong, in maintaining that the flats built
by Talam Corporation do not give buyers
confidence, described the legal letter
as a "trick to threaten me."

Strata titles: Time limit may be
given

THE Land and Co-operative Development Ministry is considering allowing developers who have not
applied for strata titles to do so within a certain period. Its Parliamentary Secretary Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman said after the
stipulated period, the ministry would take firm action against developers who failed to submit their applications.

IPOH, Fri. - Abandoned housing
scheme houseowners who are given titles to the land may have no other recourse but to seek the assistance of the original
architects and consultant engineers in obtaining a Certificate of Fitness or Certificate of Occupation. A spokesman with City
Council clarified that under the Uniform Building Bylaws one of the requirements for the issuance of a CF was the submission of
the Form E which has to be certified by a competent architect and engineer.

All States to set up building control
units

JOHOR BARU, Mon. - All State
Governments have been asked to set up building control units to check the drop in construction quality standards. Housing and
Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Ting Chew Peh said the units, comprising professionals such as structural engineers, geologists
and architects, would be responsible for monitoring all aspects of safety and stability of buildings.
