Amendment to Strata Titles

THE Ministries of Land and Cooperative Development and Housing and Local
Government are still in the midst of discussing the proposed amendment to
the Strata Titles Act 1985. The amendment, which is expected to be tabled
in the next Parliament sitting, will ensure a more efficient management
of buildings which have two or more storeys, Land and Cooperative Development
Ministry secretary- general Dr Nik Mohd Zain Nik Yusuf said yesterday.

ALOR GAJAH: Majlis Perbandaran Melaka Bandaraya Bersejarah (MPMBB) akan
mengawasi serta mengkaji semua projek pembangunan, termasuk pembinaan hotel,
yang terbengkalai di bandar Melaka. Ketua Menteri, Datuk Seri Mohd Zin Abd
Ghani, berkata tindakan itu akan diambil oleh MPMBB melalui Jawatankuasa
Pemandu yang ditubuhkan dalam mesyuarat baru-baru ini.

STRATA titles can still be issued even though land ownership is temporary
and the Certificate of Fitness has not been issued for the building under
the Strata Titles (Amendment) Bill 1995. Land and Co-operative Development
Deputy Minister Dr Goh Cheng Teik said the Bill would be debated at the
current session.

KOTA KINABALU, Wed. - Developers who fail to complete housing projects or
abandon them should not only be blacklisted but banned from the housing
industry, Sabah Law Association chairman Maureen Henrietta Lind said. She
said a ban should also be imposed on developers who faced winding-up proceedings
and directors of such companies who were facing bankruptcy proceedings.
She said the ban on these directors should be automatic and remain even
if they were discharged from bankruptcy.

the required standards is not enough, State Assemblyman Datuk Dr Zainal
Abidin Ahmad said. Zainal Abidin recommended that tougher punitive actions
be taken against these developers who lacked social responsibility and who
have left house buyers with a host of problems.

dipercayai menipu dan memalsukan
maklumat sehingga berjaya mendaftarkan 12 syarikat pembinaan serta memperolehi
20 kontrak pembinaan bernilai lebih RM80 juta. Berikutan itu, kerajaan mengalami
kerugian berpuluh juta ringgit kerana projek membabitkan 12 syarikat itu
terpaksa dimansuhkan kerana kegagalan syarikat melaksanakannya.
Bill which makes it easier

THE Dewan Rakyat yesterday passed the Strata Titles (amendment) Bill 1995
which makes it easier to apply for strata titles. Land and Co-operative
Development Minister Datuk Osu Sukam said under the amendments the developer
could apply for the strata title even if the land was still held under qualified
title or the certificate of fitness has not been issued.

several contractors who have abandoned government projects after receiving
a 15 per cent downpayment. Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said the ministry

Ministry takes 484 developers

IPOH, Sat. - The Housing and Local Government Ministry has taken 484 developers
to court mainly for breaching regulations relating to advertisements over
the past three years. Other offences include not possessing a developer's
licence and no permit for advertising and sale of units under the Housing
Developers Act 1966 and the Housing Developers Regulations 1989.
