arbitrarily by developers under a condition to be imposed with immediate effect
by the Controller of Housing. A developer may only change the price in the

KUALA LUMPUR, Sat. - Housing developers have been urged to be intelligent
and sincere when carrying out their projects if they want to avoid a tightening
of existing regulations. Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Ting
Chew Peh said today developers should not take advantage of the relative "freedom"
given to them by stressing only on profits without paying attention to quality,
safety and satisfaction of buyers.

THE Uniform Building By-Laws 1984 is to be gazetted in September this year
making it mandatory for buildings with more than five storeys to be inspected
every 10 years. Housing and Local Goverment Minister Datuk Dr Ting Chew Peh
said the by- laws would be enforced immediately after they have been gazetted.
Safety tests a must for some

KUALA LUMPUR, Mon. - From September, all buildings of five storeys or more
and which are 10 years or older will require safety inspections from certified
structural and civil engineers. Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk
Dr Ting Chew Peh said this ruling is to be imposed since the amendment to
the Uniform Building By- Laws 1984 is expected to be gazetted in two months'
time.
Check on high-rise buildings

LOCAL authorities are expected to maintain registers on high-rise buildings
in their areas to keep track of when the buildings are due for safety inspections.
This is among the administrative and enforcement procedures likely to be introduced
to ensure that the building owners engage engineers to conduct structural

JOHOR BARU, Fri. - Low-cost house owners would have to sell their units to
the Government if they wish to buy medium-cost houses under a new Housing
and Local Government Ministry ruling being drawn up to check abuses. Its Deputy
Minister, Datuk Tajol Rosli, said today the ruling was also in line with the
latest move by the ministry to tighten the registration of low-cost houses
in all States.

the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry for making false and misleading
claims in their advertisements. This follows an increasing number of complaints

drawn up by State Governments to ensure low-cost homes go to those from the
low-income group. Minister Datuk Dr Ting Chew Peh said State Governments had
the power to formulate their own policies on the matter and the Federal Government
supported them as long as it benefited the target group.

Lavendar Park developer flouts

A HOUSING developer in Lavendar Park, Hulu Langat is flouting the law by allowing
a family to live in a house, which does not have a Certificate of Fitness
(CF), since January. According to Hulu Langat District Council secretary Abdullah
Rahman, the developer could be penalised for allowing the housebuyer to live
in a house where electricity and water supply had not been connected.

the country, is willing to provide funds to developers to assist them in doing

40 projek perumahan di Johor

authorities as a guarantee that work carried out on their projects meet all
the necessary plans and specifications, including safety standards. Housing

Lumpur that the deposits would be refunded to the developers when the Certificates
of Fitness have been issued by the local authorities.

KUALA LUMPUR, Thurs. - The Government will not give a blanket approval to
developers to extend the time period for house delivery despite claims that
cement shortage is causing delay in the completion of projects. Housing and
Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Ting Chew Peh said yesterday the ministry
would only approve individual applications for an extension and even then,
approval would be given under special circumstances and after thorough vetting.

PENANG, Sun. - The Housing Developers' Association of Malaysia has called
on the Government to expedite the issue of 380,000 strata titles to buyers
of flats and condominiums nationwide. Its vice-president, Eddy Choong, in
urging the Government to clear the massive backlog, said only 50,000 titles
had been issued so far this year.
