KLANG, Fri. - An extended aeration sewage treatment plant at Desa Idaman Dua,
off Taman Seri Sentosa here, was today ordered to be shut down with immediate
effect when cracks appeared on the joints of the structure, raising the possibility
of the plant collapsing. The cracks which were seen slowly appearing on the
joints a month ago, worsened on Monday when water started to seep with signs
of the plant collapsing, according to residents.

PETALING JAYA, Thurs. - The Cabinet yesterday approved the revival of the
abandoned housing projects fund which was set up during the 1987 recession
but ceased operations in 1992, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk
Ong Ka Ting said today. He said the Ministry submitted a proposal to the Cabinet
in May this year for the revival of the fund (Tabung Pemulihan Perumahan Terbengkalai)
and the Cabinet, at its meeting yesterday approved the fund in consideration
of the numerous projects abandoned during the 1997 economic downturn.

A TOTAL of 46 abandoned housing projects in Peninsular Malaysia will be given
a new lease of life following the Cabinet's decision last Wednesday to revive
the Rehabilitation Fund for Abandoned Housing Projects. Housing and Local
Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said the ministry had submitted
the proposal to assist these 46 abandoned but viable projects to the Cabinet
in May.

an amendment to the Strata Titles Act 1985 to allow applications for strata
titles even if high-rise buildings have not received their certificates of
fitness. Minister Tan Sri Dr Kasitah Gaddam said the amendment would speed
up the application process, which takes between one and three years or even
longer.
