KUALA LUMPUR, Rabu - Penduduk di kawasan berhampiran tapak apartmen
Highland Towers, Hulu Klang, yang runtuh kira-kira tujuh tahun lalu,
bimbang kejadian semacam itu berulang apabila kawasan bukit berdekatan
terus digondol dan dimajukan dengan projek perumahan. Sekurang-kurangnya
tiga projek perumahan mewah dan kos sederhana sedang dilaksanakan
kira-kira dua kilometer dari Zoo Negara dan hanya 100 meter dari
kondominium lima tingkat Desa Ku I dan II.

by 73 former residents of Block Two and Three of Highland Towers were
contradictory and went beyond the pleadings, the Court of Appeal heard
today. Counsel Cecil Abraham said High Court judge Datuk James Foong's
finding contradicted the plaintiffs' own evidence and submissions, adding
that Foong was wrong in concluding that water was the cause of the
collapse of a high wall that led to the Tower 1 toppling and killing 48
people in December 1993.

`Pure economic loss cannot
be recovered' NST 27/11/2002
KUALA LUMPUR, Tues. - The 73 residents of Block Two and Three of Highland
Towers cannot recover their losses following the collapse of Block One
because it was pure economic loss, the Court of Appeal heard today.
Counsel Cecil Abraham said the law was clear that pure economic loss could
not be recovered as a result of damage to property of another (Block One),
adding that the loss was unrelated to property damage or personal injury
that occurred in Block One.

Federal Court against the Court of Appeal's ruling that the bank is liable

PUTRAJAYA: Mahkamah Persekutuan di sini, semalam, menetapkan hari ini
untuk memutuskan sama ada Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya (MPAJ) dibenarkan
untuk merayu keputusan Mahkamah Rayuan berhubung tragedi Highland Towers
yang meragut nyawa 48 pemilik dan penghuni pangsapuri itu, 10 tahun lalu.
Tiga Hakim Mahkamah Persekutuan diketuai oleh Datuk Steven Shin memutuskan
untuk membuat keputusan itu selepas mendengar hujah peguam MPAJ (perayu)
dan peguam wakil penduduk (responden).
