NEXT month, when amendments to the housing law passed by Parliament last
December are gazetted, developers will have to provide a defect liability
period of 24 months for the houses they build. The amendment to the
Housing Development (Control and Licensing Act) extends the existing
period by six months, which the National House Buyers Association (HBA)
has welcomed as "an additional safeguard for buyers".

        21/07/2007 NST By Zuhaila Sedek
THE path to implementing the Build-Then-Sell (BTS) mode of housing
delivery is now clear - except for one aspect: How it will be
incorporated in the standard Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA). However,
this issue is expected to be resolved over the next few weeks with the
adoption of two new schedules that won't be very different from the
Schedule G and H that governs the payment terms for landed and
        stratified properties respectively.

      There's hope yet ...
      15/09/2007 NST By G. Umakanthan
THE National House Buyers Association (HBA) feels disappointed that Budget
2008 did not consider helping buyers who have to pay off bank loans for
houses in projects that have been abandoned. Nevertheless, the association
is not giving up hope, considering that even the official body
representing developers, the Real Estate and Housing Developers'
Association (Rehda), has expressed its concern over the plight of such
      buyers.
