Stricter rules that outline developers’ obligation after the properties
have been sold, will be included in the proposed amendment to the Housing
      Developers Act.Deputy Housing and Local
Government Minister Datuk M.Kayveas said today the ministry was now
studying the matter and would introduce a new set of more effective
      regulations later on.
“Property developers should not only think of profits
all the time. They must take responsibility,” he told reporters after
paying homage to Lord Muruga’s statue at Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple here
      in conjunction with Thaipusam.
Kayveas said this in response to a recent case in Bandar
Pengkalan Indah where 14 buyers were asked by the developer, Anika Seloka
Sdn Bhd, to move out of their
Sinking houses following a land depression.
The developer offered to repair every unit of the
affected houses, and was commended by the State Government for the move.
Kayveas also urged State Governments to monitor
development projects in their state and ensure that the developers follow
      all the guidelines.
“Do not let them do whatever they like… when problems
occur, State Governments must ask the developers to rectify them,” he
      said.
He said developers should remember that buyers had to
pay their housing loans while waiting for the problems to be rectified.
Meanwhile, Kayveas who is the People’s Progressive Party
president had urged the Federal Government to declare Thaipusam a
      nationwide holiday.
He said the decision was important because there were
about two million Hindus in the country. |
