Taps start to flow again at Flora Damansara condo

10/03/2009 The Star By OH ING YEEN

THE water supply to the Flora Damansara Condominium in Petaling Jaya has been restored a week after Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) cut it off, Flora Damansara Residents Association chairman Abdul Hakim Amir said.

The supply to several blocks had been disconnected since last Sunday and residents said it was due to the negligence of the condominium management, Allied Group Property Services.

Residents are now looking into switching from bulk meters to individual meters.

The reason for doing so is to avoid another water cut and to benefit from the free water plan offered by the Selangor state government.

In a briefing at the Flora Damansara surau, a representative from Syabas told residents about the guidelines involved to change from bulk to individual meters.

“Syabas would check the meters and pipe systems for suitability and water pressure after residents fill in the forms.

“There will be no charge for the modification of meters but the JMB needs to give an letter to Syabas to state that they agree to bear the costs for leaks when maintenance and checks are carried out,” he said.

Resident Zali Zainal, who has been living in Flora Damansara Block D for the past four years, is all for using individual meters.

“We have been wanting to switch to individual meters since the free water plan was introduced,” he said.

Flora Damansara Joint Management Body (JMB) chairman Ho Fook Chuan had decided to appoint a new property management company after they took over the management of the condominium in October.

“The newly-appointed company, PAMA Services, will start operations next month but they will be helping us during the transitional period.

“The JMB also has the power to collect all fees from residents and owners of Block C, D, E, F and H for managing and maintaining the property since receiving the JMB Certificate last Wednesday,” he said.

Ho added that a temporary collection counter would be set up and residents were advised to retain their bank-in slips to get official receipts in the future.

He also said all announcements and notices would be posted on the notice boards and on Flora Damansara’s website www.floradamansara.com.

JMB committee member Maulviriadha Abu Bakar said although the water supply had been restored, some units in block D have yet to get water supply due to water pump problems.

He added that the water supply for Block A and B was not affected because they were under a different management company.
