RESIDENTS of Flora Damansara, Petaling Jaya, were without water since Sunday
after Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) cut off supply to the
condominium.
Many people were seen carrying buckets and containers to the car park on the
second floor to collect water from the fire hose.
According to resident Azman Shah Mohamad, residents were told that the water
supply had been disconnected because the condominium management had not been
paying the Syabas bills.
Dire straits: Residents from Flora Damansara in Damansara Perdana, Petaling
Jaya, collecting water from the fire hose in the car park.
“Some of us have paid our bills so it is unfair. Many residents are
unwilling to pay their maintenance bills because the condominium is not
properly maintained,” he said.
Water to Block D, E, F and H were cut but Block A and B still had supply.
Flora Damansara Joint Management Body (JMB) chairman Ho Fook Chuan said the
JMB took over the management of the condominium in October and had been
trying to get record of payments from the management.
“They haven’t been cooperating so we can’t even collect arrears because we
don’t know who owes what,” said Ho.
Syabas corporate communications and public affairs general manager Abdul
Halem Mat Som said the arrears for Flora Damansara had accumulated to almost
RM400,000 since July last year.
“The management of the condominium said they would pay the arrears in
instalments but we have not been receiving it regularly.” said Abdul Halem.
He added that Syabas had placed a static tank and water tanker at the surau
of the condominium so that residents could collect water for their daily
use.
Attempts to contact the building management office were unsuccessful at
press time.
