Shopowners hope to get strata
titles soon

AFTER 16 years of occupying shops without strata titles at the Kepong
Entrepreneurs Park, the owners are finally feeling hopeful about obtaining
them soon.
However, Kepong community service centre head Yee Poh Ping said they had to
first settle the long overdue quit rent.
Yee said as of last year, the quit rent amount totalled more than RM1.8mil.
“The owners have been trying to collect the large sum in the short period of
time given,
“They are also collecting money to pay the appointed trustees and land
surveyors who would be helping to get their strata titles,” said Yee during
a press conference held by the Kepong Entrepreneurs Park Association of Shop
Owners recently.
The 600-odd owners have been using the lots they bought from the developer
before it went bankrupt.
Yee said the shop lots which were mostly occupied by the Small Medium
Industries (SMI) were not maintained nor were these awarded Certificates of
Fitness (CF) until 2004.
No strata titles: The 600-odd shops at the Kepong Entrepreneurs Park.
“Without the CF, the owners could not apply for their business licences and
hence they had been paying fines to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for
operating illegally,” said Yee.
Since then, he said representatives from the association had been working
hard to obtain the strata titles.
“Without it the owners cannot transfer or sell their lots to others and this
is a problem they had been facing for years,” said Yee.
For now, the association is hoping to collect at least RM2.5mil for the
payment of quit rent and other miscellaneous fees.
During the meeting, the owners said they would be paying the quit rent as
they had collected the money. |
