Final warning for 'sky-bridge' owner
01/01/2009 NST

AMPANG JAYA: The owner of two flats linked with a "skybridge" in Kampung Tasek Tambahan has until Monday to demolish the illegal structure.

An Ampang Jaya Municipal Council spokesman said the owner was given a reminder on Tuesday to tear down the extension.

"He was given a seven-day notice to do so. If he does not comply, we will tear down the structure and bill him for work done." he said.

He said the man, who was supposed to demolish the skybridge in November, had appealed for an extension as his son was sititng for his SPM.

"He promised to do it as soon as the exam ends. We will wait until Monday before taking further action and knock down the structure," said the spokesman.

It was reported on Oct 14 that the owner's extension had raised concerns among some residents who questioned the safety of the structure.

A resident claimed that the bridge was also blocking sunlight to his flat and preventing breeze from blowing into their homes.

The owner admitted that he didn't apply for a permit prior to building the extension more than 10 years ago.

The council had also feared that any further force on the extension including demoliion, will affect the whole structure of the block but later decided that it has to be done by the owner.
