Housebuyers stranded as project is abandoned
07/12/2008 NST By Heidi Foo

SEREMBAN: More than 100 house buyers in Taman Tuanku Jaafar Senawang Phase Three, here, are seeing red as the developer has yet to begin building even a single house.

The sales and purchase agreements, signed in 2005, states that the houses would be completed by 2007.

The housing project called for the construction of semi-detached houses, single-storey terrace houses and bungalows. But the site is now an abandoned plot.

The only buildings standing there now are two bungalows, which were the show units

Each house was priced between RM110,000 and RM200,000 each.

The house buyers said they had had to rent places to stay while waiting for the houses to be built.

They staged a protest at the site recently to demand an explanation from the developer.

Some of them claimed that they have been paying loan installments of between RM800 and RM1,500 a month since 2005, while others had been paying between RM10,000 and RM45,000.

The house buyers' spokesman, P. Rajasekar, said he had paid almost RM45,000 on loan installments for the bungalow he had booked.

He said he had made several attempts to talk to the developer about the progress of the project but the staff of the company were uncooperative and gave him all sorts of excuses.

"The developer is not taking responsibility for the project that we have invested thousands in. In fact, they tried to put the blame on another company when I repeatedly questioned them about it.

"The developer even wanted us to sign a new sales and purchase agreement. The (new) agreement states that the developers will reduce the size of the houses for an additional payment of about RM10,000 each from the buyers," said Rajasekar.

House buyer Husaini Hussain, 41, who also bought a bungalow, said he was forced to rent a house in Taman Senawang Jaya.

"I want the authorities, especially the state government, to intervene because this involves the interest of consumers. We are no longer able to bear the financial burden," said Husaini.
