Landslip damage taken care of
02/09/2008 The Star
THE developer of the Damansara 21 project has released a statement regarding
the landslip, which occurred in Lorong Setiapuspa 1, Medan Damansara, last
Wednesday.
In the incident, a retaining wall collapsed during a downpour, followed by a
landslip at 4am due to soil erosion from the hill near the Medan Damansara
area.
Matter of concern: The StarMetro report on the landslips that appeared on
Aug 29.
One house was badly affected by the incident with cracks appearing on the
walls and mud gushing through the kitchen door.
In the statement, SDBDamansara said they viewed the incident with concern.
According to them, the initial findings indicated that the landslip was due
to water trapped at the bottom of the perimeter brick wall, which eventually
gave way.
An earlier slope stability study conducted by their consultants had shown
the affected area to have a Factor of Safety (FOS) valuebelow the acceptable
level of 1.4.
An FOS value lower than 1.0 meant landslips were likely to occur.
They have sent a copy of the report to relevant authorities and no earthwork
had been carried out following a stop-work order, which had been imposed
since April this year.
Following discussions with the DBKL, the developer is nowcarrying out
rectification work at the damaged site.
Some of the work include clearing of debris, constructing a new rubble wall
and building a U-drain for the affected house and cementing the affected
slope.
They had also made arrangements for the two families affected by the
landslip to be put up at a hotel as of Wednesday.
All cost and expenses of their stay and remedial work to the affected houses
would be borne by the developer.
