Residents see red over piping works

28/08/2008 The Star By Stuart Michael

EVER since residents moved to Taman Tasik Indah off Jalan Ipoh four years ago, there have been many defects related to piping in their houses.

They paid more than RM400,000 for the houses in 2004 and since then residents have been making numerous complaints to the developer Crystal Hill Properties Sdn Bhd. They claimed that the developer would send their staff to paste and fix the problem.

After years, residents got together and found that about 100 houses in the area still have piping problems and asked the developer to meet up with residents two weeks ago.

The developer failed to meet residents and told them that the warranty period of one and a half years was over and washed his hands over the matter.

Common stand: Taman Tasik Indah residents protesting over the developer’s shoddy work on their houses

Taman Tasik Indah Action Commitee chairman Johnny Puah said that he felt that the developer had used sub standard PVC piping for all the 334 houses in the area.

“Some residents have changed the piping but there are about 100 residents here protesting about the cracks on the wall, bathroom, flooring, shoddy workmanship, water pump problems, water tank cracking and piping leakage.

“The repairs cost us a lot. A year ago, I faced a situation where water suddenly poured down from the roof like a waterfall. I had to climb up my roof and shut down the main pipe.

“And I found out that almost every neighbour I talked to faced some piping problem. If it was an individual case, it would be alright. The sad part is that when residents repair one pipe leakage, another one crops up somewhere.

“And when we ask the developer to meet us, they don’t turn up,’’ said Puah, who is also the Taman Tasik Indah Residents Association deputy chairman.

Taman Tasik Indah Action Commitee secretary Jessie Ooi said that she spent more than RM3,000 to reapir the piping in her house.

“Three years ago, my house also had water coming down from the ceiling and I did the repairs. Then, another pipe burst downstairs three months ago and all my furniture was soaked. The plumber had to break the wall and do the piping.

“We are still fearful that some other pipe would burst or the roof collapse on our heads,’’ said Ooi.
