Director charged with breach of trust

19/06/2008 The Star

KUALA LUMPUR: A company director was charged at a Sessions Court here with committing criminal breach of trust.

The offence was said to involve some RM16mil.

Tang Chai Yoong, who is a director of developer Dataran Mantin Sdn Bhd, claimed trial to committing the offence on June 21, 2004 at the company's premises in Jalan Maharajalela.

The 49-year-old director was alleged to have unlawfully disposed of 700,005 shares that belonged to the company without the approval of its board of directors.

DPP Lokman Kasim, who said the case involved some RM16mil, proposed a bail of RM2mil.

Counsel N. Sivananthan, however, disputed the figure saying the value of the shares was not stated in the charge.

He informed the court that the subject matter of the charge was under dispute in a civil suit at the High Court in which the plaintiff was also the complainant in this case.

Asked about his client's financial standing, Sivananthan said Tang had a net income of RM330,000 a year.

Judge S.M. Komathy Suppiah set bail at RM500,000 in one surety and fixed July 28 for mention.

Bail was posted.
