Victims can report land scams

04/04/2008 The Star

KLANG: The Selangor Land and Mines Department will be given the go-ahead to record statements from victims cheated in land transactions throughout the state which were “tainted” by allegations of fraud .
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said: “The director of the department, Nasir Hasan, will be given the green light to interview victims and it is up to him to check each alleged land scam and record statements that are needed.”

“All cases involving land matters must go through this department and the director of this department will resolve the alleged land scam through his office. Only then can we get the right answers,” he said.

Yesterday, The Star reported that the Selangor Government had opened investigations into allegations of massive land cheating cases said to run into hundreds of millions of ringgit in the state.

Tomorrow, Khalid will meet Nasir at the Land and Mines Department in Shah Alam.

Before meeting 15 Klang businessmen in Bandar Baru Klang last night, Khalid said the department had all the files to conduct the investigations.

“The files are there, the matter will be solved. Do not worry, the land will not run away,” he said.

Asked if well-known politicians or ex-politicians were involved, he said, “I will reveal it once the facts of the case are much clearer because the officers are coming up with a list on the parcels of land and how this issue could have come about. For now, do not speculate too much,” he said.
