JOHOR BAHARU, March 25 (Bernama) -- Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs
Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad has promised to look into the abandoned
Pacific Mall building project located right at the heart of the city.
Shahrir, who is also Johor Baharu member of parliament, said the Pacific
Mall buyers' committee had brought up several issues, among them the
protection for commercial property buyers.
"If you buy a house, you'd be compensated if it is abandoned, but what if
the property is a shopping complex?" he said after visiting the building
Tuesday.
Shahrir said he would forward the matter to a special committee headed by
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.
Another issue, he said, was about the safety of abandoned building and what
should be done to prevent theft to equipments and fittings inside the
building.
He said would discuss the matter with Johor Baharu City Council and other
local authorities.
The RM300 million Pacific Mall, comprising a 24-storey office tower,
shopping arcades as well as car park, started construction in 1995 but run
into problems and had not been completed until now.
