IPOH: Residents at three apartment blocks in Taman Meru Impiana here have
been having sleepless nights as erosion is eating up Sungai Meru, which
flows next to their building.
They fear that the situation could worsen as another part of the slope, next
to the Indah Water Konsortium plant, in the vicinity of the seven-storey
Kings Height Apartment, has eroded.
A spokesman for the residents, Matthew Purusho-thaman, 42, said: “There
could be more incidents of erosion, especially during the current rainy
period.”
Datuk Bandar Datuk Mohamad Rafiai Moktar had been informed and he had
promised to hold a meeting between Ipoh City Council officers, the developer
and the management company of the apartment.
“We hope the authorities will take action as soon as possible before any
serious incidents occur,” Matthew added.
Several memoranda have been sent to Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Tajol
Rosli Ghazali and various government departments and agencies on the matter.
According to Matthew, the erosion caused an electricity pole to fall into
the river and Tenaga Nasional Berhad had erected a new pole in its place.
The apartment was built more than a year ago and it is 30 per cent occupied.
There are about 200 units in the three blocks. |
