Residents live in fear of
landslides

EACH night, when the more than 2,000 residents of the Teratai Apartment in
Puchong go to bed, they pray that it will not rain. Why?
Not because they still have clothing outside to dry or their apartments are
leaking, but simply because they live in constant fear of landslide.
Their apartment area has been hit by three landslides in the past
two-and-a-half years. The latest landslide, a minor one, occurred just two
months ago.
Clean up: Kow helping out during the community cleaning exercise held by the
residents of the apartments.
Each time it rains, especially at night, the residents from the 446
apartment units become jittery.
“The recent landslide occurred near the playground and the residents are
worried about where the next one will take place,” Kinrara assemblyman Dr
Kow Cheong Wei said.
“I can understand their predicament since they had experienced a major
landslide which buried a car park area and another incident soon after the
first one in 2005,'' he said.
He said that Syabas had spent RM1.24mil on rectification works.
Kow said that he had informed Syabas and was awaiting the reports of its
investigation on the latest incident.
He said the residents were concerned over the safety of their children since
the last landslide occurred near the playground.
“I have advised them not to allow the children to the area until we receive
the report from Syabas,'' he said.
Kow also took part in a community cleaning exercise held by the residents of
the apartments. |
