Leaking pipe at carpark
05/01/2008 The Star By Carolyn Ooi

Residents of an apartment block at Lintang Macallum 2 in Penang are worried that their carpark will be turned into a mosquito breeding ground.

Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Lee Hack Teik said residents also complained of stench from a leaking underground sewage pipe at Block 7, Pangsapuri Pelangi’s compound.

He said they had made more than 10 complaints to the authorities since the leak started in July last year.

Lee said that although no dengue case was reported, the residents feared that the dirty water would cause water-borne diseas-es.

Lee urged the Penang Development Corporation and Indah Water Konsortium to take action immediately.

Pensioner Lim Ah Chai, 63, said he and his wife avoided going to the car park because of the stench.

Health hazard: Hack Teik (squatting) being shown the puddle by Poh Choo (right) and Lim.
“My two grandchildren are suffering from mosquito bites,” he said.

Lim’s wife, Lee Poh Choo, 62, complained that a layer of moss was covering the carpark near the sewage manhole.

“This is dangerous to the elderly and children because the whole place has become slippery,” he said.
