MUAR: The Malacca Government is considering exempting quit rent for owners
of pre-War traditional houses.
“Although land matters in Malacca come under the jurisdiction of district or
municipal councils, not every home has to pay taxes,” Chief Minister Datuk
Seri Mohd Ali Rustam told reporters after opening the Muar Umno division
delegates' conference yesterday.
Mohd Ali also said that the Malacca and Johor state governments had agreed
to jointly develop the area between Kuala Sungai Kesang and Gunung Ledang.
He hoped that the project, which included building a road from Asahan in
Malacca to Sagil in Johor, would start soon.
He said the 6km road would pass through the foothills of Gunung Ledang and
would cut travelling time between both ends.
The Chief Minister said Malacca had just completed a RM510mil 72km
expresswaybetween Sungai Rambai and the Negri Sembilan border, bypassing
Malacca town.
“Motorists can now drive from Muar to Alor Gajah or Air Keroh without using
the North-South Expressway in a much shorter time,” he added.
