KUCHING: Sarawak’s Housing Ministry will study the details of an amendment
to the housing development law requiring developers in Peninsular Malaysia
to give a 24-month guarantee period for defect liability.
It would then decide whether Sarawak should follow suit.
In Sarawak, developers are currently required to provide a guarantee period
of 12 months for defect liability, Housing Minister Datuk Abang Johari Tun
Abang Openg told reporters after chairing a meeting of the Kuching division
development task force yesterday.
Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said on Sunday
that the amendment, to be implemented in April, would extend the guarantee
period from 18 months to 24 months in the peninsula.
