KUALA LUMPUR: Many Malaysians can only afford one house in their lifetime
thus the Housing and Local Government Ministry is committed to ensuring that
projects are carried out properly.
Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said the Government has to continually
improve the delivery system and tighten housing laws to ensure the projects'
success.
While some developers were unhappy with the actions, the ministry had to act
for the public's interest, he said during the launch of Melati Ehsan
Holdings Berhad (MEHB) prospectus in conjunction with the company’s initial
public offering.
Ong said the Ministry would continue to streamline existing bureaucratic
procedures.
He urged builders to build houses that were up to the expectation of the
people.
Under the 9th Malaysia Plan, 709,400 units of new houses will be built and
72.1% will come from the private sector.
Ong said most of the two million-odd houses built in Malaysia in the last 15
years were from the private sector.
