What new building maintenance
law is all about
03/12/2007 NST-PROP
Here's an opportunity for those living in strata-titled properties,
condominiums and townhouses included, to learn more about some new laws that
were enacted by Parliament recently, and how these affect them.
The seminar will give them the opportunity to better understand the roles of
the different bodies Joint Management Body (JMB), Management Corporation
(MC) and Commissioner of Buildings (COB), developers and managing agents in
the management of residential strata properties.
These matters come under the recent amendments to the Strata Titles Act 1985
and the new Building & Common Property (Maintenance and Management) Act,
2007.
Organised by the National House Buyers Association (HBA), the two key
speakers at the seminar to be held at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala
Lumpur from 2.30pm to 6.30pm on Dec 8 will be lawyers Viola De Cruz and Kuna
Sekaran.
Participants will also be able to learn about past court decisions related
to the Strata Titles Act.
HBA secretary-general Chang Kim Loong said De Cruz will speak on "Formation
of JMB under the Building & Common Property (Maintenance and Management)
Act, 2007" and "Role and Powers of the COB".
Kuna will speak on "Formation, role and duties of MCs under the Strata
Titles Act". Both the speakers will then take questions from the floor.
A fee of RM175 per participant has been fixed. Those who register with
payment by Tuesday will enjoy a discount of RM25.
Payments can be made by cheque to "National House Buyers Association", or be
banked into its EON Bank Account Number: 00- 301-000-1011-9.
