Abandoned project may be revived
06/10/2007 The Malay Mail By Darshini Kandasamy

Buyers of a low-cost housing project in Taman Sri Raya, Cheras, were hoping that the abandoned housing project will be revived

Last week, after waiting 18 years, their plight finally caught the attention of the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

Representatives from the ministry met members of a committee for the abandoned low-cost housing project which represents the buyers, the developer and representative of Permodalan Negeri Selangor on Oct 26.

Committee coordinator,  Sevan Doraisamy, 33, said the developer was questioned on the project's delay and its ability to deliver the houses.

He said the developer alleged that they were unable to proceed with the project because they discovered the land was not suitable for development.

"The developer also claimed that they had contacted the buyers and compensated them. However, this is not true.

"When we presented the list of buyers who had not been notified about the project's cancellation or received any compensation, they admitted that they were not able to contact all the buyers," said Sevan.

He said in the meeting, it was decided that the project will be taken over by Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd.

Sevan said the committee had asked for a meeting with PNSB after Deepavali to discuss reviving the project, as well as compensation for the buyers.

On Oct 4, the buyers presented a memorandum to the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

In the memorandum, they requested for the Ministry's intervention to get the houses completed within two years.

It was claimed that they signed a sales and purchase agreement for the low-cost housing scheme between June 1989 and June 1990 with each house costing RM25,000.

It was alleged that the agreement, signed with the developer and the Selangor State secretary, promised that the houses would be ready by 1991.

They claimed that numerous attempts to meet the developers to seek clarification over the delay have proven futile.

Sevan advises buyers to contact him at 016-9708370.
