New Bill to give flat buyers

OWNERS of flats and apartments will be able to appoint their own management
corporation prior to strata titles being issued when the Building and Joint
Property Bill is passed and put into effect.
Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said the
Bill was now with the Attorney-General’s Chambers and was expected to be
tabled in Parliament next year.
She said this in reply to a question by Tan Sri Dr K.S. Nijhar (BN – Subang)
during Question Time.
The Bill would change the current situation where flat and apartment owners
were only allowed to appoint management companies after the strata titles
for their properties had been issued.
She said before management corporations were set up, the buyers would have
to depend on their sales and purchase agreements to seek redress.
“Our ministry has never neglected its responsibility towards house buyers.
Those with complaints are welcome to come and see us,” she said.
