Enforcement unit of consumer
court needs more bite
The Star 22/9/2006
I STRONGLY agree with Sledgehammer’s suggestion about coming down harder on
those who do not show respect for the decisions of the Consumer Tribunal.
In my case, the tribunal had ordered a developer to refund the down payment
it had collected from me for a house nearly five years ago.
The company refused to refund the money though no work had been done for
four years.
The tribunal awarded me RM9,942.68 on Aug 26, last year. The money was
supposed to be paid to us in two weeks.
When it failed to pay up we wrote to the enforcement section of the tribunal
on Sept 14, last year. It has been one year now and we have not seen a
single sen of the award.
