HOUSEWIFE K. Danalachmey was having sleepless nights after she received her
quit rent bill that stated an increase of about 200% since early this year.
She said her quit rent was only RM40 previously but was shock when she was
asked to pay RM120.
“I was shocked when I receiv- ed my quit rent for the year,” Danalachmey
told reporters recently.
Lumut MP Datuk Kong Cho Ha said Banalachmey, 47, was one of the residents in
Kampung Datuk Seri Kamaruddin in Sitiawan who faced such problem.
Kong, who advised them to appeal to the state government to lower the quit
rent, said the problem arose because the state had re-evaluated the village
as a housing estate when it should be evaluated as a new village.
“All 800 landowners in the village are appealing to the state government,”
he said.
Kong, who is also Perak MCA deputy chairman, said the state had agreed in
principle to lower the quit rent but the quantum had not been decided. |
