developers who fail to deliver on time

MARAN: The state government will take stern action including blacklisting
housing developers who fail to complete their projects on time, state
Housing and Growth Centres Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Soffi Abdul Razak
said.
He said they had received numerous complaints pertaining to late completion
of houses from buyers who had to continue servicing bank loans.
“We also received grouses on the poor quality of houses besides public
facilities which were not up to expectation.
“In this regard, the state government will continue to monitor all housing
projects closely to ensure prompt completion according to specifications.
“We have ways and means to address these problems against errant developers
including blacklisting them in future projects,” he said after meeting about
150 owners of an abandoned low cost housing project in Luit near here
recently.
Also present were Luit assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Munawar Abdul Jalil, state
housing unit assistant head Zamani Mohd Ali, National Housing Department
(western region) director Radin Abdul Halim and Maran assistant district
officer Masari Abdul Rashid.
Mohd Soffi urged buyers who were laden with these problems to report the
matter to the authorities or assemblymen for further action.
“We will bring up the matter with the housing developers concerned and find
an amicable solution,” he said, adding that the state government could not
act without receiving proper information.
On the abandoned project, he said the developer had agreed to complete the
remaining work be-fore the end of the year.
“Hopefully, some of the buyers will be able to occupy the houses by then,”
he said, adding that the project, which had been abandoned for two years,
would be revived in stages.
Mohd Soffi said for a start, priority would be given to 26 buyers who had
secured a bank loan to refinance their houses.
“This group will receive the keys to their houses once some minor repairs
are completed over the next few weeks,” he said. |
