KUALA LUMPUR: A management corporation (MC) was ordered by the Consumer
Tribunal to pay RM18,000 compensation for depriving a condominium owner the
use of piped water.
The tribunal has ordered Venice Hill Management Corporation Sdn Bhd (MC) to
pay the compensation to businesswoman Thong Kooi Li, 42, within14 days.
It ruled that the MC had no business cutting the water supply to Thong's
Venice Hill Condo and Golf Resort unit in Cheras for 15 months. The MC had
demanded Thong to settle a deposit for security, maintenance and water.
She refused and the MC turned the taps off, forcing her to move out and rent
a house in Petaling Jaya for RM1,000 a month.
"The MC also prevented me from entering and leaving my premise, threatened
me and my family with sticks and barred us from using the condo facilities,"
she told theSun on Monday.
Thong said police reports were lodged and a criminal law suit has also been
filed against the MC for threatening.
She said nothing in the principal deed of mutual covenant stated that the MC
had the right to cut the water supply in the event of non-payment of
maintenance charge.
Thong had filed a claim against the MC for special and general damages and
costs of RM25,000. |
