The gates are for our own good
16/08/2006 The Star
We refer to MBPJ enforcement officers’ intention to tear down security gates
at Jln 17/35 and 17/62, recently.
The said are service roads to 67 houses in Taman Lee Yan Lian.
They are not main thoroughfare like Jalan 17/33,which is one of the main
access roads to Section 17 from the LDP Highway and has high traffic volume
all along even before the gates were put up.
We have a family member whose bag was snatched right at the driveway and
knifed in the process.
Our homes have been broken into in the day and at night and we were attacked
as well. Also, our drain covers were stolen in broad daylight. Please
empathise with us.
We, the residents truly enjoyed peace and safety in the past one month with
the gated security, especially when returning home late at night.
Most of us are senior citizens with our extended families, and have been
suffering from fear all these years.
The understaffed police have not helped either.
We are only taking pro- active action to protect our loved ones and
properties by installing the gates.
Datuk Bandar, what advice can you offer us other than to ask us to tear down
the gates?
Can you work out a compromise between the two groups of residents? If not,
do you plan to install cameras?
Our assemblyman should also think of how he can help us.
The park can be accessed from Jalan 17/58 with with its facilities still
open to the public.
It is safer now as the guards have deterred bad hats and loiterers from
entering the area.
We are appealing to you, Datuk Bandar to let us keep our gates closed if not
in the daytime, at least from dusk to dawn.
We appeal to those who object to give us, your your neighbours, the chance
to protect ourselves.

Petaling Jaya. |
