TO SPREAD the message that reading is fun, the Riana Green and
Tropicana Residents Association set up a new library in the compound of
the Riana Green condominium.
Residents volunteering as librarian maintain the first-of-its-kind
library in Bukit Lanjan.
“We hope that we can be a model to other developers so that they will
incorporate a library in their future condominium projects,” said
Residents Association chairman Bobby Gan.
Present at the library’s soft launch was Bukit Lanjan state
assemblyman Yong Dai Ying who sponsored a computer for the library.
“This is a pro-active move by the association to encourage reading
and I hope that other residents associations will do the same,” said
Yong.
The developer sponsored cash while the management of the condominium
assisted in the setting up the library.
Residents also sponsored cash and donated old books to add to the
library’s collection.
The library is currently undergoing some final touches.
“When the library is completed, residents would be able to borrow
books and use Internet facilities. The broadband router is currently
being configured,” said Gan.
He also urged residents to volunteer as librarians to upkeep the
facilities, benefiting everyone.
“We have elected our chief librarian, Udo Kraus, who have kindly
volunteered his time,” said Gan.
The library currently operates on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
from 7pm to 9pm and from 10.30am to 12.30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“The opening hours will be revised once we get more volunteers,” he
said.
At the soft launch, the association also unveiled the new Riana Green
Condominium newsletter, which carries updates and progress of activities
held by the association.
“On top of that, we have also brought in the Elections Commission for
residents to register for the next elections,” said Gan.
A registration booth was set up for residents in the condominium for
the convenience of residents to register as voters.
“This programme was established based on the residents’ feedback,
especially the younger ones. Besides registering, residents can also
perform other administrative matters like changing of addresses,” said
Yong.
