WITH the rising crime rate, I would like to propose that the Government
reintroduce the Rukun Tetangga concept.
The benefits are as follows:
1. IT will foster closer relationship and integration between neighbours and
friends. People these days, especially in the Klang Valley, do not seem to
know their neighbours.
2. PATROLLING of the neighbourhood is a good exercise and a good way to
fight obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes.
3. IT alleviates the police force workload. The police can only do so much.
The sight of a group of four or five men with batons will definitely deter
would-be criminals.
4. FOR poorer neighbourhoods that can't afford security and gated
communities, this would be a good answer.
5. RESIDENTS who have big dogs can offer their dogs for patrolling. This
will ensure the dogs have their share of exercise, too.
