Construction procedures to be
reviewed
The Star 28/6/2006
IT IS time to review the procedures in the construction of housing and
commercial areas and local authorities should compel developers to build the
basic infrastructure before starting piling works.
“Often, the developers start the piling work first so that they can collect
the progressive payments from buyers.
“Drains, the sewerage system and other infrastructure are usually built
last, and sometimes they are poorly constructed or not even done at all,”
said Selangor state executive councillor Datuk Ch’ng Toh Eng, who is in
charge of environment, IT and new village development.
He said building the infrastructure before starting piling work would not
add any major steps to the construction process, adding that the matter
would be brought up at the state executive councillors’ meeting.
Ch’ng was speaking to reporters after opening the Great Vajrasattva Puja for
World Peace, Harmony and Compassion at a hotel in Port Klang recently.
The puja, which was held in tandem with health awareness programmes, was
organised by Persatuan Buddha Dharma Padmasambhava Malaysia and the
Malaysian Society for Complementary Therapies.
Earlier in his speech, Ch’ng said there was a need to promote peace, harmony
and compassion in the wake of the current turbulent times.
“It is also necessary to preserve environmental health and conserve all
forms of life,” he said. |
