Relocate cemetery
The Star 17/04/2006
I AM a resident of Kota Kemuning and writing to voice my dissatisfaction
over the issue of a cemetery to be built in the middle of our housing area,
near Kota Kemuning Hill.
It is very inappropriate to have a cemetery in the middle of a housing area
as possible environmental and health effects could occur from human
decomposition.
Research shows that poorly sited cemeteries pose a threat of ground water
pollution, at least equal in magnitude to that posed by conventional
waste-disposal sites [Council of Geosciences, Environmental Engineering and
Marine Geoscience Division, USA].
Further more, it will also bring down the market value of our properties.
I really pity some of our fellow residents who spent over a million ringgit
on their bungalow units at KK Hill.
I strongly feel that the developer of Kota Kemuning should be responsible on
this issue. When we bought our property three years ago, we didn’t see any
cemetery-reserved land on the master plan of the township. In addition,
other attractions like the proposed hypermarket and medical centre were no
longer on the plan. We, as buyers, feel cheated.
As the Selangor Mentri Besar has agreed that the proposed site is not
suitable and granted a relocation, we hope that the developer will look into
the matter seriously and relocate the burial ground to a more appropriate
site.
