Plight of Gurney Heights Condo residents: Three
years and still no CF
The Malay Mail 10/4/2006 ZUBIR SULAIMAN
KUALA LUMPUR: Residents of Gurney Heights
Condominium (GHC) phase 2 (Block C and D) were looking forward to condo
living when they moved in three years ago, but what they got are endless
problems.
"We do not even
have the Certificate of Fitness (CF), and that was after four meetings
with City Hall and the developer since last year," said Iskandar Mohd
Yusoff, pro-tem president of Gurney Heights Condominium phase 2
residents association.
He claimed that at every meeting, residents were promised that their
problems would be looked into, but nothing has changed until now.
Among the problems which give them sleepless nights are the safety of
the buildings, the recreational facilities, poor security and
maintenance service.
Ahmad Fadzil Ali said with all these problems, "why should we pay RM230
a month for the maintenance fees".
He admitted that they have never paid the maintenance fee since they
moved in but it was all due to the shoddy condition of the buildings and
the facilities.
Another resident, Norazizi Othman said he was worried about the safety
of the children when he found that exposed wires run across the
corridor, the unlock electrical room, no intercom to the guard house in
the lift and the exposed elevator room on the rooftop.
"One of the residents was stuck in the lift recently and nobody was
aware about it, not even the security guard. Luckily, there was another
resident who heard his cries for help and alerted the guard," he said.
His neighbour, Damo
Dran said the buildings do not have proper fire prevention system, with
fire hose and extinguishers nowhere in sight.
"What would happen if there is a fire, what’s going to happen to us and
who should be blamed?" he asked.
Rabiah Ahmad who sold her house in Cheras to move into GHC regretted her
move.
"My car was broken into at the parking lot six months ago," she said. "I
wonder how this and several other break-ins could have happened, as the
place is supposed to be guarded round the clock," she said.
The Malay Mail was also shown cracks at several parts of the buildings
and leakage from the swimming pool on the first floor.
The surau and gymnasium were bare while the games room has been
converted into a store.
The project was a joint-venture between City Hall and a private
developer. Both parties could not be contacted. |
