'No more water tanks above living room, bedrooms'

The  Sun 17/4/2006

KANGAR: All housing developers in Perlis will no longer be allowed to locate water tanks above the living room and bedrooms of the houses they build, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said yesterday.

This is to ensure the safety of the occupants and avoid a repeat of incidents where water tanks crashed down into the living room and bedrooms of houses, he said.

"We will summon all developers to discuss the matter because we are worried, about incidents like these, which are like time bombs. The last time in Taman Hijrah, now here," he told reporters when visiting the house of footballer Mohd Shahabuddin Kadir, 25, in Taman Bukit
Kayangan, here.

On Saturday, a 700-litrewater tank fell onto the bed in a bedroom of Mohd Shahabuddin's rented house at4.30am as he was sleeping in the living room.

On Wednesday, a water tank crashed onto the living room of the rented house of assistant forestry director of operations Nor Hafizah Mustafa, 27, in Taman Hijrah.
