MB warns developer over water
tank fiasco

KANGAR: The developer of Taman Hijrah here, has been given a stern warning
to rectify problems at all its houses after a 150-gallon water tank crashed
through the ceiling of a living room in one of the homes there.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the developer has been told to
replace the wooden support with iron beams in all the 80 houses that the
company had built in Taman Hijrah.
He also instructed Aima Development Sdn Bhd to get its representatives to
check on the matter within two days and reduce the size of the water tanks –
to 100-gallon capacity – in all the houses.
On Wednesday, civil servant Nor Hafizah Mustafa, 27, had a rude shock when
the water tank at her home came crashing down in her living room while she
was taking a nap in her bedroom.
The Perlis Forestry Department operations assistant director said three
other houses had made similar complaints over the past year and housewife
Suni Bidin, 35, verified this.
Shahidan said he was surprised that the developer had placed the tank above
the living room, instead of placing it in the bathroom area or outside the
house.
“I am giving a stern warning and, in future, I don’t want to see any project
in the state being approved if the developers place their tanks in such a
manner,'' he said.
Company manager Zuber Ahmad, who met Kangar Municipal Council president
Faezan Omar and state Local Government and Housing committee chairman
Azihani Datuk Ali, said that his staff had gone to check all houses in Taman
Hijrah. |
